This year for the 14th Annual Gillenkirk Reunion – All I can say didn’t go as well as we hoped and hopefully next year we’ll have a better turnout.

We first started out by showing up on time and began to start the grill so we can get the food cooked and prepared in the mean time I’ve moved around the tables and re-arranged everything the way I wanted so we make sure we had enough room.

The food selection is about the same every year – We had hamburgers, hotdogs and Italian sausages for the main course and the side dishes included Marconi Salad that I made, Baked Beans (Isn’t a Family Event without Baked Beans!), Sauerkraut and some other side dishes. Food was great! We didn’t have many desserts in fact only think we had one or two.

Over the last few years – The Gillenkirk Auction has been a total waste of time – In fact we didn’t have any items this year for auction so we didn’t make any money from that.

The only thing we’ve made money from was the 50/50 Auction which was $37.50 and since we did it early enough we were hoping to do another one if more people showed up to do another one. The only thing that more less helped us was the “Free Will Donation” we made $91.00 total this year – but it’s still tough because of the funding – The people who didn’t show up – I’m hoping you can make a donation via a Credit/Debit card using the following link on the side. If people don’t read this – I’ve planned on calling family members to see if they’re willing to help. Little goes a long way.

You have to understand – When getting the invitations for the reunion I have to figure in the price for printing thus includes the invitation, labels, surveys and stamps. Don’t forget the price the gift cards, main food and candy for the kids. Everything does cost and with only a $91.00 as a budget we’ll be pushing every penny and maybe just maybe we have some family members willing to help out.

Basically the reunion didn’t go as well as many people didn’t show up – but the setting everything up went fine whereas usually every year it doesn’t. The food was fine, auction was a bust. However the people who did show up had a good time and we played a small game of Euchre and UNO.

We’ll have another reunion next year and possibly be the last one depending on the turnout – We’ll still ask for donations as I’ll have to be reimbursed for this year reunion if it doesn’t get any more donations from family members. This isn’t definent – but we’ll see how everything goes and hope to see all of family next year at the 15th Annual Gillenkirk Reunion!
